Workplace Wellness
Posted on 07. Jul, 2009 in What We Believe
We believe that workplace health promotion works.
Obesity, poor nutrition, physical inactivity and tobacco-related illnesses cost North Carolina employers an average of $5,000 per employee, per year1. With health care costs on the rise, employee health impacts a company’s bottom line more than ever before.
Unhealthy employees add to company costs because they are absent more often, injured more frequently, suffer more lost work days to recover from injuries or illnesses, and are generally less productive.
Creative health promotion and disease prevention programs have been shown to improve health, increase productivity and have an impact on a company’s bottom line. Experts believe that employers can expect a 3:1 return on every dollar invested in well-designed wellness programs.
BCBSNC has taken an increasingly active role in leading workplace health promotion in recent years. Whether by investing in research and tools that employers need to get started, or by providing personalized programs that help make a difference in the lives of their employees, we’re working to address health care costs – one company at a time.
